Mudgee Arts Precinct is proud to present Icons of Pop Art: Warhol and Lichtenstein, the first in a series of four major exhibitions made possible through the Australian Government’s Sharing the National Collection initiative.

Home to the most valuable collection of art in Australia, the National Gallery of Australia's collection contains over 155,000 works of art, including the extensive Kenneth Tyler Print Collection comprising over 7,400 works by leading 20th century artists from 1966 through to 2001 and some of the finest examples of Pop Art held in an Australian collection. 

This landmark exhibition brings 41 significant artworks from the National Gallery of Australia to Mudgee, showcasing some of the most iconic names in international art. Over the next two years, visitors will enjoy four major exhibitions beginning with Icons of Pop Art: Warhol and Lichtenstein. The second exhibition will feature works by renowned British artist David Hockney, including three pieces from his Paper Pool series (1978). This will be followed by an exhibition of Lichtenstein’s Bull series and finally, works by Willem de Kooning, Maurice Sendak, Masami Teraoka, Helen Frankenthaler and Frank Stella.

The first exhibition in the series of four is Icons of Pop Art: Warhol and Lichtenstein which will open 6pm Friday 24 October and will be on display until Sunday 15 March 2026.

Andy Warhol Campbell’s Soup II – Cheddar Cheese (1969)
Roy Lichtenstein Reflections on The Scream (1990) and eight other works by the renowned American Pop Art pioneers.

20 March 2026 – 20 September 2026
Featuring three works from his Paper Pool series (1978)

Roy Lichtenstein
26 September 2026 – 14 February 2027
Featuring Lichenstein’s Bull series and Reflections on… series

Beyond the Frame
20 February 2027 – August 2027

A final exhibition including works by Willem de Kooning, Maurice Sendak (writer and illustrator of the famous children’s book Where the Wild Things Are), Masami Teraoka, Helen Frankenthaler and Frank Stella.
